Calling All Curvy Contenders

Forever Yours Lingerie and LUCY Clothing Seek Curvy Contenders

LANGLEY, BC: In a fashion scene plagued with airbrushed cover models and runways devoted to a nationally unattainable size, the curvy controversy continues. Today’s runway model only represents approximately three percent of the Canadian female population. Forever Yours Lingerie and their sister store LUCY Clothing know that fashion divas come in all shapes and sizes, and are celebrating real women’s curves with their first ever model search. These two boutique brands are seeking six models for a national advertising campaign and launch of their new online stores.

Established 16 years ago by owner Sonya Perkins, Forever Yours Lingerie is a beacon for the modern woman, providing a vast selection of bras and lingerie that fit all shapes and sizes. For Perkins, her own heart-breaking search for support wear and lingerie for her wedding sparked her to open a small store in 1996. Fast forward to 2007, with the market cornered on stylish foundation garments, the demand for fashion-forward plus size clothing paved the way for Perkins to add a new boutique to the family and created {LUCY} – Love. Uniquely. Curvy. You. - a plus size clothing boutique providing curvy women with fabulous fitting fashions in their chic downtown Langley location.

With limited Canadian online clothing retailers offering an expanded size range, Perkins and her husband Brian hope to deliver the same great products and customer service to all women in Canada. “There is a real gap in the Canadian marketplace for modern, plus-size clothing and quality lingerie,” remarks Perkins. “Whether shopping for a new pair of jeans or bras and lingerie, our customers want to be able to picture themselves wearing the clothes.” For Perkins, searching for women who best illustrate their clientele just made the most sense, “We want to provide our customers an image they can connect with.”

With the contest now underway, applicants of all sizes are welcome to enter. The six selected models will be provided a $500 wardrobe; a 3-month paid modeling contract with the possibility for renewal and will be the faces of a national advertising campaign and launch of the online stores. The successful contenders will be required to travel to the Langley area once per week, be over the age of 18 and be of a proportioned physique. Mynott Appointed NEDRA Regional Director for Western Canada

Urban Life Media client, Delta Secondary School Electric Drag Vehicle Project Lead, Casey Mynott, was featured in The Delta Optimist on January 4, 2012.

Story written by Dave Willis, The Delta Optimist

Casey Mynott
Delta Secondary automotive instructor Casey Mynott has been appointed as the National Electric Drag Racing Association's regional director for Western Canada.

Being part of the organization is an honour, says Mynott.

"Some of the individuals active with in NEDRA are some of the very few individuals in the world pushing the envelope in regards to electric drag racing," he says in an e-mail to the Optimist.

His role is to help promote the sport of electric drag racing in regards to safety and showing the "exciting power" that electric vehicles have, he notes.
Mynott and his students set Canada's first electric drag racing record last year with their electric drag racing truck.

Mynott's group got some good news recently when it was announced that the International Hot Rod Association, the largest drag racing sanctioning body in Canada, had formally recognized electric drag racing.

It's a big step in regards to the acceptance of electric drag racing in Canada and throughout North America, he says, adding it gives the DSS program the ability to travel.
"So, to show up at, for example, Ashcroft, now is a possibility. Before it would have been not an option as electric were not covered in their rule book and therefore we would not be racing on that track or it would not be as straight forward if electric were a part of that specific rule book," says Mynott.

There are plans (doubling the torque, lowering the rear differential ratio) for the program's truck, a converted 1989 Toyota pickup, to get faster.

As high school participants through the (British Columbia Secondary School Motorsport Association), the truck is limited to a 12-second quarter mile time, Mynott notes.
"So, our job right now, is to get as close to or bang on that 12 second time limitation. A 12 second quarter mile is fast for any vehicle let alone an electric vehicle that burns not a single drop of fossil fuel."

The program has also recently acquired a junior dragster and is in the process of converting the vehicle to 100 per cent electric drive.
